There's side menus? I hardly ever use IE now, so I didn't know there were any side menus!

Still, you can report things like that to the Firefox team, or simply refuse to use sites that don't stick to standards ;)

Well, that's all big and clever, but I'd rather have access to sites that I want to view.

To be honest, I am no Microsoft fan, and I LOVE the idea of not using their products and finding alternatives, but the simple fact is that the alternatives (generally) don't do the job as well. I know it's not their fault as Microsoft don't release the info for them to write proper software, but you have to look at what works and what doesn't. There is for and against for both systems.

I tried very hard this time to go non-microsoft when I had bad virus problems. I tried Linux (2 systems) with firefox but was getting too many problems. I put win2000 with IE6 and Norton back on and it all worked fine! I'd like to go Mac, but it's just too expensive, especially when you have a PC sitting there doing nowt.

You see what's wrong with that statement? Microsoft shouldn't have to release the info for things like web coding, as it's meant to be a platform independent standard! It's only when they decide to create something, then license it/ sell reduced access licenses/ whatever, that you get the problems of "This doesn't work with x or y, and it must be this things fault".

It's just a sign of their somewhat shaky business ethic in my opinion.

Having said that, I still run Windows as some of my hardware and a lot of the software (mainly open source) just doesn't work, or at best doesn't work without a lot of tinkering, on anything else

But anyway, php, Nuke etc should all be fine cross platform and browser, which I think is more on topic for the thread

Do you not get that with IE or Firefox on the PC or something? The Mac parses it pefectly with both browsers. Asked out of interest, BTW, not smugness

Yes, now click on 'parts dept' and it should expand and you should get: Parts Catalogue, Publications and Mail-order.

You can then click on these items and go to the relavent section and find parts. If, when you click in the items, it does nothing, then you have the same problems that I had with Firefox.

I don't see a problem with that statement, I'm well aware of what they SHOULD do, but that's very different from what they DO do. Web coding IS a platform independant standard, but if 90% (wild guess) of users are using one particular browser type and pages are optimised for that browser type then the 10% are in a tricky situation. IDEALLY there should be no quirks and the such like and all browsers should work all the time on all pages, but it isn't is it? People (like microsoft) sneak bits in to throw other browsers and make theirs work 'better'. Like you say, this is dodgy practice and I'm against it, but I want a working PC, so I'll use whatever works, which in this case is IE. If they released the info on what they changed/their optimisations, then the other browser writers could make it work. But they don't and can't in the current climate.

Yep, but then when was business ever moral or ethical? It's about making money. (again, I'm not personally part of this ethic).

I used to have all kinds of problems with MS Explorer. Firefox works very well for most websites and it's perfect for this one.
