If replacing the whole thing - take an immense amount of care and consider removing engine and box to help keep the chassis legs from moving.
If doing just the crossmember ends - measure a lot and support the car in a few places, and all should be fine.

When I changed the end on mine I found the floor had moved up a lot! Had to use much persuasion to get it back down (at least 2lb of persuation with very long handle. and G clamps through convenient floor repair hole so that it fitted.
Also measure pre load and mark torsion bar and end fittings so you don't have to guess so much when you come to bolt it back together.
Finally if you can roll it do so. Upside down welding is a pain in the bum (and head, and ear when spatter rolls in)
sizzling shouldn't sound that close!
