Hi all
I've been told that such things exist called door repair skins (bits to be welded on that fit over holes on Traveller doors.) Is this true? If so, please does anyone know where I can get them at a reasonable price?

any Minor specialist should be able to supply door repair sections, usually the lower section.
Do not be tempted just to fix them over the holes though as it will not last. You will also probably find that the inner frame to which the skin attaches will also need repairing. Generally, it is not an easy job to do.
I'm doing just such a repair on the original passenger door on my traveller- lower door skin repair section. I got the panel for £15 (plus vat) from ESM
It is quite tricky, as its quite easy to get distortion in the panel when you weld it to the rest of the door. Use the repair section as a guide as to how much to cut off the old rusty part of the door.
The tricky bit is what I'm doing right now- smoothing the skim of filler so when painted the repair is in visible- I'll post some pics when the job is done ( and I'm happy to show the results!)
how bad was the door frame when you removed the rotten outer skin? The other complication is that it is difficult to get a dolly inside the door to dress the weld area.
The door frame was pretty good!, just some surface rust on the bottom of the iside of the door, which removed with a few goes with Jenolite and a wire brush.
Yes, I could not , as you say "dress the weld area", so (probably too much!) filler may be required.
You also have to be careful not to mark the face of the doorskin when folding over the flange onto the lip of the inner door. You can buy the proper tool to do this- I might get this before I do this job again.
I think the hardest part is that you are constantly aware during the job that the quality (or otherwise!) your repair work is going to be visible on the outside of the car and shiny paint will show up any imperfections.
I think the next time I do this job I'll make a much better job of it.
