Traveller Sliding Glass

Post by g_land »

Folks,

I need to replace the rubber under the crome handles on my glass. I've checked with ESM and related companies and they don't have rubbers for these.

what have people used in the past becuase a bicycle tube is looking good now!!

Regards,

George

Iv`e just looked at mine to see what you mean, I think your inner tube idea could be the best bet, perhaps you should make lots and patent them

the actual rubber that goes across the bulkhead is the perfect shape, its just need to be about 50% bigger.

There must be MANY Trsvellers that would benefit from some new rubbers in this area. I tried the usual suppliers some years ago and got nowhere. The extrusion process isn't difficult, but the tooling would need to be either located or made. Perhaps this is an area where the Club could step in as none of the traders seem to want to help?

tooling costs for these things are pretty expensive so there would really need to be a big demand for the part.

Its a nice idea, i'll let yet know how i get on with my homemade version.

BTW more photos of my trav on http://www.gacurley.com/minor

Thanks for putting your pics up George, i know you`ve put them on here before but despite searching i couldn`t find them for the life of me.
I`m at "The Early Days" stage with mine so they`re a great source of help and encouragment, and super job by the way.

Having no idea what they actually look like; it occured to me that istr reading about a kit for making up obsolete rubber parts using the original as a template.

I can't find anything web based about it, but I recall it being targetted at classic car owners, so someone might remember :-)

folks

just to let you know how i got on. i ended up using the bulkhead rubber of a 88 volvo, cut off the metal clips where it grips onto the bulhead and it did the trick.

its hard to see here but it works a treat
