1098 vs 1275 sump

Post by martylemoo »

Hi,
Are the 1098 and 1275 sumps supposed to differ? i tried my sump from my original 1098 on my marina 1275 but it would not fit at the back. Is this normal? if so would all 1275 varients fit on my marina block or does it have to be a marina one?
cheers
Martyn

How do you mean would not fit at the back?

The only difference is the height of the end seal walls. The 1098 sump fits the 1275 but it does not seal as well as the 1275 sump. I ran a 1098 sump on a 1275 for years with only a small leak.

I am now using a Marina sump on my Ital engine so it seems to me that they are all interchangeable.

Interested to hear how this goes - I thought they were all the same.

well i could not get it to fit, it seemed as if the U shape cutout was slightly wider on the 1275 sump than the 1098. I have fixed the leak in the original sump and put that back on. Maybe just my engine but i could not ever see it fitting

The 1275 does have bigger diameter main bearings - but I had hoped the old 1098 sump would fit. On this basis I have started to collect bits - but was assuming one of my sumps would fit! Ah well - back to ebay.
