Trafalgar Blue - Lighter Shade of Pale(r)

Folks,

We are trying to colour match a 1969 Two Door Saloon and were working under the assumption that the car was 'Trafalgar Blue' (BU37 ICI6189).

The colour chip at the local auto paint dealer was darker than the colour of the car and then after a little digging found out that a lighter shade of Trafalgar Blue was also introduced, same code (of course!).

Can anyone help/suggest a good supplier, since our local 'shop' only has an earlier chip (1962) and we are having real problems colour matching.

erm, im not sure I can help because I have exactly the same problem. I bought traf blue from ESM (morris minor parts company) and when I used it i had the same issue. They only do the darker one

Which is good news for those of us who want the darker one (and didn't know there was a lighter one), so thank you!

EMJACE.... I had a similar problem with dark green recently and
found that most suppliers have destroyed the early colour slips
so could not obtain the correct codes. I went to a local paint supplier
with a small example of my colour and he mixed up a very good
match @ £20 a litre. ( if you go down that road then make sure you
order enough to leave some over to put in a 'touch-up' tin).

Yes indeed there are two shades of Trafalgar blue. I posted about two years ago with this same point. I was amazed how many Minor specialists didn't realise that was the case. I phoned about 5 altogether and only one would confirm my suspicions (even MMC Bath didn't know!!) and none could give a definitive answer on which of the two was available in spray paint.
I can confirm that the earlier, darker (with a hint of turquoise) shade is available as a Rover colour from the Halfords paint mixing service. As yet I haven't found a supplier or code for the later (flatter, greyer) shade.

Two of the Minor's we acquired, a two door saloon and convertible both have the same later traf blue shade (how's that for luck!), so we are really keen to get a good match.

The two door saloon was resprayed recently (by the looks of it) since there isint too much weathering (we dont have any details on previous owners though) so finding a paint specialist that can match the code would be really great.....the gauntlet has been thrown down...any takers

We will probably need to respray both anyway, but I would rather use the correct shade rather than the original traf blue.
