It's doing the same for me, started yesterday and I haven't changed any of my settings. Probably a cookie issue somewhere from what I know of phpbb.

it's a bit of a disincentive to frequent use of the forum isn't it, cos you have to log in all over again each time you want to check a thread you are watching - otherwise you don't get the email update alerts

Oddly, it's working OK for me now, and has been for a while now. Presumably it was a cookie setting in the php software somewhere :)

Is you using Firefox, or IE? I hardly ever use IE, and Firefox is working fine auto logging on :)

Do your PC a favour :) http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

Tabbed browsing, better security, a multitude of add ons (I can't live without adblock now), and all for free too!

Well firefox has been installed and when i enter the site from there my username and password are already displayed at the top of the white column on the left there, so i just have to press log in, is this whats known as automatic.

the way it works on other sites is that whenever you return to the forum you are already logged in - deeply cool and useful :D

No, but Firefox just handles things "better", in my opinion. I think some people are having problems with cookies (my dabble with phpbb taught me a little bit aboutn how the server forms and sends them) and I just find Firefox better for going through things, and better in general really :)

When you log on there should be a little box "remember me" or suchlike - Make sure it's ticked. If you can't get the auto login to work then find the cookie listing (Tools, Options, Privacy, Cookies, View) and delete it, and try again. I know this site and Firefox work fine with auto logon as it's what I use :)

Also, if you have a scrolly (or 3 button) mouse, clicking on a link with the middle button should open it in a new tab. Closing the tab can be done by clicking the tab with the middle button. Tools, Options, Advanced, Tabs gives you nice control over them. No more cluttering of a thousand IE windows on the taskbar! :) I use the view new posts and open them in new tabs when reading this site, I find it much quicker, easier and tidier than messing with IE.

I don't think there's any systems that can't run Firefox, but the more obscure (not X or Windows) builds can be somewhat well hidden.

Firefox does indeed work a treat! I have been using it a couple of days, no problems whatsoever, it even feels quicker than IE.

Can I just remove IE completely from my PC?

Firefox Rocks 8)

But be aware that some web pages won't work on it...

If you get a page with a faulty form (boxes don't show up/work) then try opening the page in IE

If you download the extension from HERE you can right click on a firefox page and choose to view it in IE

There are lots more extentions HERE

I can recommend Mozilla Thunderbird too...that's the mail program
