Should Polybushes squeak???

Post by wanderinstar »

My car has developed a squeak on n/s/f even though it had Polybushes fitted when I bought it. I thought one of benefits of fitting them was NO squeaks.

Which ones have you fitted. You should assemble with white grease, and this should be enough for a good while. I believe that only the Superflex ones are self lubing. AWC used to do sets of poly bushes but these were not as good as they could be, and did not self lube. Check that you have not overtightened the bushes, and they will squeak if not lubed when fitted.

Better still a squirt of white grease. This is the recommended material to use.

The main benefit is they last longer. I used a smear of copper grease on assembly, but now I know, I'll use the recommended grease that Jonathan mentioned if there's a next time!!

Have these on my Mini - with no oils or greases and no squeeaks to be heard - mind you the car is so loud anyway it would be difficult to hear anything !

Funny this should come up, my car's just developed a creak from the rear over large bumps after I fitted poly bushes. They're the blue ones from ESM and I used copper grease as I didn't know about white grease being the thing., didn't someone say you could get a spray can of it from Halfords?

poly bushes

Yes a spray can of white grease is available, but this should be used on assembly, for best results you may need to re fit the bushes using this grease.
Not many folk realise that there are grades of bushes, if Superflex then blue is the classic range (standard cars set up) and red is sport, a slightly firmer compound suitable for uprated systems. 8)

The best bushes I have found were the yellow ones from JLH. I fitted red ones all round from the Birmingham Minor centre and they were FAR too hard. The car creaked terribly and the eyebolt ones destroyed themselves VERY quickly! :o

After fitting the JLH ones a few years ago the creaks disappeared and they have been brilliant! :D

Can't see why bump stops should creak - unless the car is sitting on them constantly ?
