Brakes pulling to the left

Post by martylemoo »

Hi,
Just recently my car has started pulling to the left under braking, it is fitted with disks and a servo up front. The front disks and pads and the rear shoes are all fairly new. What would be causing this?
Cheers

discs

Try swapping the pads side to side, and check that the disc is running true. Also chack the wheel bearings for correct fitting. If these fail to cure the problem then check that the caliper is not sticking. Does the wheel turn freely when jacked up or does it bind.
Check also that the discs are the correct ones as there are two versions for some kits, the wrong one being 2mm wider. 8) :D

Hello Martyn,

also check that the right hand caliper hasn't got a sticking cylinder. A longer shot is that the left hand tie rod is loose or the bushes are badly worn.

Hi Martyn,

Just a thought (!) Have you checked the tyre pressures?
Also maybe worth adjusting the rear brakes again.

You did adjust the rear brakes with the handbrake cable slack ?
It may be necessary to go round & re-bleed all the brakes as well

Good luck,

Pulling to left means brakes on right not working properly - so start the search there. If it's a severe pull it will be the front brakes - if it's slight it will be the rear.

It can just be an imbalance caused by the linings but yes - normally it means a fault. If it pulls to the left all the time it should be easier to find. If it only happens after a certain amount of driving it can also be caused by one of the brakes dragging (with a sticky caliper the brake will stay on, and the heat causes fading, so once you've driven a while, itt no longer works efficiently)
