Sill structure

Post by Cam »

I used to have a picture of the sill structure of a saloon, but I can't find it. :(

Anyone have one?

Don't know if this is any use - it doesn't show the useful bits...

Not too wide, I hope - shout (anyone) if it is.

Thanks Andrew! :D

Actually, while seaching about, I found this, which is quite useful I think:

Yep, a lot better than mine - which is from the alignment section of the workshop manual.

Well, I had a picture of a sill cut in half and it showed everything in pretty good detail, but I can't find it!

But I guess these piccies are not too bad...

This is the nearest I can get to that...

Does anyone know why they went for 2 parts (8+9 and 6.7.8.9.13) instead of just 1 like on the commercials?

Got to be something to do with strength as it's not as important on an LCV as a car.

I'd have thought the extra join would be a weak spot, fold or no fold. I presume it is/was spot welded? Very odd - one would have thought they'd be keen to keep the parts standardised across the range.

Can't say I've seen much of LCV's sills, but yes I would imagine so too. There must have been a reason though. I'm betting on the extra fold being stronger than the LCV version (when new and not rotted through  ).

8 and 9 wern't 2 parts on the saloon (the were actually part of the floor pressing), but for aftermarket you can't fit it as one piece without cutting the crossmember off!

6,7,8,9,13 - don't know what they are individually (especially without a full picture) but it is usually 1 piece. They are however different between 2 door, 4 door, traveller and LCV so that may explain why so many numbers?

I'd assumed that re. the parts - but the fact that if it was in one piece you'd need to cut the crossmember to repair/replace it is the answer! Cheers :)
