Clutch & Brake pedal bushes

Hi
I need to replace the two pedal linkage bushes. These are the ones that fit either side of the chassis leg just in front of the master cylinder.
The old bushes were badly worn and I had to hacksaw them out of their holes.
Can anyone tell me the best way to fit the new ones. I don't want to just hammer them in and risk damaging the bushes or distorting the leg. I have thought of using a large 'G' clamp and trying to press them in. Suggestions greatly received.

Pressing them in is the answer, if you can make something up with a spigot that fits the inside bore of the bushes, so much the better.

It would indeed be better to have a custom made tool to push them in square.

I have used a socket before now (slightly bigger and used the rear of the socket) and 'drifted' them in (well lubricated) so that they go in squarely. It's awkward to start them off, but once they start they go in true.

Same for the brake pedal ones, but that can be done on the bench.

Morning all,
The last time I changed my bushes, I used a longish nut and bolt to just pull the bush into the hole. I had some plates/ thick penny washers at each end and just wound the nut up the bolt using a socket and ratchet. As you say, make sure everything stays as square as possible to begin with and it'll go in ok. The biggest problem is space in that area especially if the gearbox is still in place so you are a bit limited what you can do. I do recall though it was a bit tight when i put it back together but i just put a reamer through and all was well. Perhaps I was a bit clumsy when installing them?
