Unless it is a Maestro engine which has the factory installed rear crankshaft seal I am not surprised that the crankshaft seal leaks. The 1275cc in line engines were not fitted with a seal just the return scroll. Is it the after market seal leaking or is it the crank bearings and return scroll worn out?

its the aftermarket conversion.
bought another kit as garage mullered the old one,
new seal lasts about 200 miles, instructions say machine the crank end,
not done, when I pull the engine its getting a speedy sleeve and new seal,

What 1275cc engine do you have fitted?
The aftermarket kit with the spacer is not suitable for the 1275cc MG Midget/Sprite engine as the flywheel is lifted off its register which allows the flywheel to come loose even with the two dowels and six bolts.
Only the MED crankshaft rear seal kit is suitable for the 1275cc Midget/Sprite and that requires some machining.
