just called up to insure with the new / current MMOC partner Peter James and turns out they have a blanket no-insurance policy for cars parked in the street in London. They also mentioned that the same applies to multiple other cities (Manchester, Birmingham the two other mentioned).
Not great that the main partner simply wont quote for cars whilst Footman James do...

Re: Peter James insurance - no quote
I did not know that. Technically I live in London although I archaically call it Surrey. My Morris is never parked in the street (it is punitively expensive to have a second resident's parking permit and my modern car has a permit). My Morris lives in the garage and I am insured with the club insurer Peter James. As I own a convertible, I have never thought the car suitable to live outside wherever it might be.

What does that tell us about the state of London and those other cities?dudload wrote: ↑Fri Aug 07, 2026 10:03 am just called up to insure with the new / current MMOC partner Peter James and turns out they have a blanket no-insurance policy for cars parked in the street in London. Like with all Insurance, there has to be a balance between coverage and premiums.
Many, dare I say all, Insurance Underwriters and the Brokers that provide the insurance from those Underwriters, make a business choice as to their client base.
I would hazard a guess that the data on Minor Ownership, or perhaps MMOC Membership, indicated that the excluding street parking in postcodes within major cities had a major influence on the ability to provide a highly competitive service.
Essentially the 80/20 rule, aka the Pareto Principle.
I've just obtained a quote, and subsequently taken out a policy, with Peter James under the MMOC Club Scheme.
In my 9 years of Minor Ownership I have been with 3 other brokers, the latest renewal for a policy with 3,000 mile limit came in at £152.
My new policy with PJ, with no mileage limit, was just £120.
That's a 21% saving.
Every time I've changed Insurance Broker, it's been due to a lower price.

I have just moved my traveller insurance to the club scheme,
saved me £40 + and better terms, still waiting for paperwork,
tried the house insurance, similar to my renewal but £90 more than moneysupermarket
