1969 Indicator Stalk not flashing

Evening all, indicators on the car work so the car stalk is correctly setting left and right but the stalk bulb doesn’t flash. Having opened up Pandora’s box I see a broken wire (green) which goes up the inside of the stalk but where does this connect in the stalk fittings? Clearly (and if it were that I wouldn’t be asking!) it seems a connection has broken? Any pics or pointers would be helpful!

Yours is clearly a reproduction indicator switch. On the originals the wire that goes up inside the stalk is black/white and it is also of thinner gauge wire than the others.

See this original of mine. The black/white wire goes through the indicator stalk and is soldered to a pale green wire (no trace colour, plain light green) that goes off in the main bundle of wires.

On your unit the pilot lamp wire has detached at a solder joint from the terminal on the far left of your picture. You can see there was poor solder joint there and possibly too much tension on the wire going up through the stalk.

So you would need to clean up the terminal with an abrasive (a glass fibre pencil would do the job well) and with a soldering iron with enough oomph, solder the wire back on. Check it isn't pulled excessively taught when moving the stalk left and right. If it is, you might have to splice some extra wire in.

Thanks! I thought I was going mad! I’ll strip and solder a new piece in tomorrow and make the join. Many thanks! The horn push contact came off too when the steering wheel was off so that needs a solder too!

Sounds like you will be busy with the soldering iron! Do you mean the bullet contact that is on the end of the wire that comes up through the middle of the steering wheel? I thought that was a crimped bullet. You will probably need to crimp on a new bullet as once a bullet is squashed it is too narrow internally to feed the wire back in but you might be able to squeeze it back to round with pliers. You can solder a bullet on instead but it's quicker to crimp. If you are in for the long haul with your Morris then one of the assorted packs of male and female bullet connectors and a bullet crimping tool are really useful. That horn contact should also have a spring, C-clip and a plastic sleeve.
