WBH Ignition Barrels/door lock barrels FS Series

Suppliers such as ESM say they are unable to supply barrels to match specific key numbers but this supplier says they will try to supply the barrel requested. This enables the car to keep the door locks, boot lock and ignition switch all on one single key. It is annoying to end up with multiple keys for the car.

As it happened, the supplier above did not have the numbered barrel that I needed for my ignition switch. However, it is worth noting that you cannot recode a modern Lucas 47SA ignition switch for an FS series key. This is because the key design has changed and an FS series key cannot even enter the lock.

With these genuine Weston Body Hardware (WBH) FS barrels, you can recode the barrel for your original key. Even simpler, you can just put the old barrel straight into the new lock if it still works properly of course. If have done this with my ignition switch and it's fine for now but the barrel is very worn and at some point in the past somebody has tried to force it with a screwdriver.

I have successfully recoded one of these WBH lock barrels for my existing key. There are different ways to achieve this. You can either put your old key into the new barrel and then file off any of the pins that sit proud so that the cylinder barrel can turn in the lock. This is primitive and crude and will mean that the lock will turn with a lot more key combinations than it should. Or (the proper way to do it) you can remove the pins (x5) from the barrel and rearrange the order of them to suit your old key. However, you may find that the random code new lock barrel that you bought does not happen to have the right length pins for your old key. In my case I needed 2 new barrels to harvest 5 pins of the correct lengths. Even buying 2 new barrels to make 1 is cheaper than asking a locksmith to do it. As far as I can ascertain, the lock has 5 pins each of which can have 4 different lengths. This makes up the required number of different keys combinations.
