Rear Light Mounts

1955 2 door in need of rear light mounting blocks. These are the solid metal blocks shaped to fit the contours of the wings, sided of course. I have the light assemblies , chrome plates and gaskets, it's the metal mounts I need. Can anyone help please. Thanks. Purple line shows what I have. Yellow lines show what I need. Thanks

I am not very familiar with the early cars. On the ESM website there is this rear light assembly 1954-1956 which appears to fit directly on the wing without a metal block.

Also in the parts book, AKD5541 I cannot see any additional block illustrated or listed but this may be because the parts book is not early enough for your car.

But then on the Moss website, there is 37H5161 which is the right hand and 37H5162 which is the left hand

So it seems, with my unfamiliarity with early cars that the Moss parts are correct and the ESM one is not?

Also available here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/134554269108 Ron Leacy who sells as Traditional Old Motor Spares told me that he bought the Lucas tooling many years ago and restored the tooling so that he can make absolutely perfect reproductions. I bought his later Minor rear lights and front lights and the quality is superb. I highly recommend these spares.

I did a search for the light bases for Series II cars. I found a post by Bryan Gostling who is in charge of MMOC spares (and especially spares for the early cars). Bryan said the bases are Mazak and difficult to find but they do turn up at MMOC rallies and auto jumbles. For a price, some metal finishers can restore Mazak that is pitted which is perhaps the only way for very rare parts.

I have left my post above because you could use lamps from a slightly later car if you wanted to whilst sourcing what you need.

It looks to me like the ESM lamp (LMP300) is the part which is fixed to the mazak base, which would be painted body colour. The Moss ones look like those for the early 1000 models. If the mazak bases are unavailable then post on here in 'wanted' section, or trawl autojumbles.

This might be heresy but since the bases are painted body colour couldn't they just be rubbed down, filled and repainted?

That is the obvious solution. As OP says "it's the metal mounts I need", I assumed his are missing, But if the pictures are of OP's car, then they are not missing, only suffering corrosion and so, if that is the case, yes, rub them down, fill and re-paint.

Yes, the parts I need are the ones labeled 39 and 40. 2 x 39 (one LH, one RH) and 2 x 40 rubber gaskets.
The mounts currently on the car (in my photos) are very badly damaged internally and cracked where the fixings are. They are not useable or fixable, a very competent friend has confirmed this. It's currently held on with copious amounts of glue and cable ties.

I saw a few at Beaulieu at the Spring Autojumble. The last pair I had had to be rubbed down and filled externally and the seized bolts drilled out The Chrome and the gaskets as well as the lenses are all readily available but be careful, the lenses fitted numerous rear lights for the period.

Quite honestly, having seen your photos, I'm not exactly convinced by the 'not fixable'.....

I'm part way through 'restoring' a pair of Metal bases for my Late SII.....

See this post of mine from 2017, when I discover what Basil had (and currently still has) fitted.... viewtopic.php?t=67364

About a year later, I spotted a pair on Farcebook for about £13, quite ropey in condition, but I figured they were recoverable, when I got around to cleaning them up and I could use Milliput Epoxy Putty to replace whatever metal was beyond help, etc.
They were not a true 'pair' as one was finished in green, the other in black, so different donor cars.

As I'm in no rush to fit them, they still aren't finished, but they are getting there; I just nipped out to the garage to get these photos to show what condition they are in at present..

I've seen the occasional one or two for sale at autojumbles, they are Handed, so you have to be aware of what you are looking at.
You just have to judge the condition and the price; if the seller isn't knowledgeable as to scarcity of them, they can be quite cheap, like I got the ones on ebay.
