I find it hard to believe that all the Minors that I have owned since the 80's had knackered distributors....but maybe they did.

DOH shows how many times I have touched the ignition its actually Petronix system
Plugs have never needed changing, just oil, filter, air filter and valve clearances. So far it has been reliable.
Just a little update from AC Dodd about my engine (and the effect of drilling the airbox)
"Firstly drilling the airbox does not destroy low end torque. It reduces it and by a very small amount. What does kill low speed torque is insufficient ignition timing cause by incorrect advance curve which is what the issue was here with this engine, and it's extremely common. People buy an off the shelf dizzy with out checking the advance curve and if it's actually suitable for there engine. Is not just this engine many people do this. I had to reduce the maximum advance setting to limit the possibility of engine damage at higher rpm because the total advance curve length was too long for thinks application. Your engine I think only had 12 degrees of advance at 2000rpm where it should have more like 19degrees. This 7 degree difference is huge and is responsible for the lack of low end torque. If anyone is looking to buy a dizzy, ensure it has the right advance curve before you fit it, as it will determine the final efficiency and performance of your engine combination"
