Rear brakes

Post by chrisw »

After replacing rear brake cylinders I'm having problems stopping a fluid leak. In the connection there are two sizes of copper washers. Does the larger one go right next to the brake cylinder (which looks right) or does it go inboard of the bleed nipple banjo (which my manual seems to suggest -and which may be why I get a leak!!)? Also, is it OK to re-use the copper washers once they have been compressed up once or twice -or do they maybe loose their "springiness?. (I'm sure there is a more technical word but it escapes me at moment).

You can re-anneal them by heating them up and dropping them in water ! But I doubt that should ne necessary. Not sure which washer goes where - it should be obvious from the adjacent parts ? Make sure you use correct bundy pipe fitting - the rear cylinders are 3/8 Whitworth (actually may be unc, but the same at that size) - NOT the usual 3/8 unf.
