Re: Wildlife
Bump that request for several water bowls sprinkled about in the garden, on the floor for the hedgehogs too.
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!

Re: Wildlife
Started feeding my resident crows peanuts last week. Trying to befriend a few locals for better interaction and to learn something about them. There's a few ravens around but crows definitely outnumber them. Got a pair that stay close by; they're fun to watch. They'll roost above the feeder and hide behind the Spanish moss after I put the peanuts out. Also; they're very picky about what they'll actually eat; nothing so far but raw unsalted in-shell peanuts. Going to have to transfer a few garden spiders away from the front porch. Two are Joros; they get big and gangly; one is a standard garden spider, she's in their "territory" and I'm concerned they might despatch her.

Re: Wildlife
We recently had a fledgling collared dove on the ,living room window ledge. We watched the parents feeding it for two days.
It roosted behind the apricot tree. We assume it got strong enough to fly away

Re: Wildlife
3 squirells this year, may hate them but they don't don't do as much damage to the enviroment as humans do.
My bathroom spider must be approaching 3yrs old, is that normal?

Cows know how far they can walk into the canal without falling in
While others just swan about

Regarding the spider query, I think female spiders can live up to about 3 years. I’ve had one living under a small stool in the kitchen for a couple of years, discovered when I needed the stool ————- I found something else to stand on !

Re: Wildlife
RE: appreciating animals over people; yeah, pretty much. Been in retail sales since I left the Navy in '88 and gotten so intolerant of humanity that I embrace any and all interaction with our wildlife. My much younger coworker sees my experience as a warning about dealing with (eeew) "people".
Re: Wildlife
I think many of us here are singing from the same song sheet, however nothing is black and white, there are many humans that dedicate their lives to protecting nature and the environment. It’s the other type that stain the reputation of our species. What makes some good and some evil ? I’d better stop now, as I’m likely to get all philosophical
