Dm2 distributor

Hi there people I have a question. I recently bought A 1959 4 door 948cc moggy which I love but doing Smd one research i have the earlier type dm2 distributor fitted which appeared to be worn as it has some play in the shaft , now I know the later type 25d was used to 1098cc engines and I hear some of the last 948cc engines is this true, upto 1962 apparently but can you confirm this please, but I also read that the advanced curve is to aggressive on a 948cc engine to use so am a little confused. Am I best just getting this rebuilt or a 25d is ok to fit and run fine and won’t cause problems as this later one is easier to buy.

I wonder and don’t want to risk damaging the engine. Many thanks people.

Yes, in 1962 the DM2 was changed for the 25D in the 948cc cars. It will be fine in your engine and no chance of damage.

If you want to fit a Lucas 25D4 then you will obviously have to buy a second-hand one as they are no longer made. You could buy one from a distributor specialist e.g Distributor Doctor and specify at the time of purchase that it is for a 948cc Morris Minor. That way you can be sure that the advance curve is correct. There are so many variants of the Lucas 25D, with different advance curves, that it would be difficult to find the correct one. If you do want to do that you would have to find the reference books that list all of the various different model numbers. You're welcome. When you look at the chart, use "find" to search it for "Minor" and then go through the results. I cannot vouch for the accuracy of the chart as obviously I didn't write it!

For instance, Morris Minor 1957-1962 Lucas DM2 40561A CCW (counter-clockwise) ; Morris Minor 62-67 Lucas 25D CCW 40849A

Not relevant to the OP but from Martin Jay (Distributor Doctor) for my 1969 1098cc Lucas 25D CCW 41148 (early 1969) 41269 (late 1969) both actually equivalent.
