As part of the commissioning I painted the fuel tank before installing it and it was upended and turned every which way; could this have dislodged the internal tank pick-up into a weird position?

Many thanks,

Gil.
Can I suggest removing the tank unit, i.e. the Float Assembly, and taking a look in the top to inspect the internals?
Then you can eliminate any thought that the pipe has become loose.

The pipe inside the tank that goes down to the bottom of the tank with a filter on the end is usually just flared at the end where the flare nut on the end of the fuel line screws in.
I have not seen the union that you have shown in your photo before.

When you buy a new fuel line from ESM, the ends are already formed, and screw straight into the tank and fuel pump. The extra union in your photo is not needed.

Problem solved.

:D

I used the union with the olive ( so the bits from middle of the picture to the bottom of the picture ) and going straight into the hole of the new tank. It effectively mimicks the standard fuel line coupling and is working well.

Thank you all for the advice and suggestions.
