Replacing the heater valve on my 71 minor

Hi Just got Morris minor At last, I've only waited 40 years.
So after advice
I need to fit a new heater valve, Can someone advise me do I need to put sealant on the gasket?

To answer your question: No, just ensure that the mating surfaces are clean and flat and then assemble with the correct gasket.

Not sealing goo on the gasket but just a smear of general purpose grease on both faces.
