I have all the wood off the car ( previous owner removed it) the wood is quite good but some of the joints need regluing the wood screws in the joints are rusty and seized any one got any tips regarding extracting these screws

An add on to the last post the sockets in the wood for fixing the wing too are in a state how were these originally fixed into the wood and how do you remove them

For the rusty screws, you could try soaking the area with linseed oil. That might make it difficult to apply varnish at a later date, but as the screws are hidden, that should not matter - the oil will protect the wood. Also carefully drill a very small (1/16 inch or 1 mm) relief hole beside the screw. This may free the screw or allow the oil to penetrate better. With the old screw removed, all holes can be plugged with fresh dowels and good quality waterproof adhesive filler before drilling fresh pilot holes for the new screws.

The captive nuts are in a kind of spiked ring that presses into the timber. Search for "tee nut". They can be levered out, but this will weaken the fibres of the timber. You may be better to see if you can re-cut the threads in situ.

The fixings were expanding type (like a rawl bolt for timber) and will have rusted solid. If you are lucky enough to be able to remove the original bolts you can drill the steel insert out... I fitted 1/4" thread brass inserts in mine. These ones fit in a 10mm Dia hole.

When I fitted the rear wings to the wood frame around the wheel arch I used brass screws with large penny washers instead of the troublesome bolts. That was over twenty years ago and the have been fine.
