Actually looking up close at a Minor

Post by Scoop3379 »

I've now reached a point in life where I'm actually able to get my first classic. I've settled on a Morris Minor and I am actively looking. But, in all honesty, I've never got up close with one and had a good detailed look at them. I hope that doesn't sound too bizarre.
I live in the West Midlands (Stourbridge DY6 / DY8) and I am asking if there is anyone near ish to me that I can look at their Minor and pick their brains and knowledge? I know these are very personal items in our lives, but if you don't ask...!
Thanks in advance.

Do you know which sort you might be interested in yet - 2-door, 4-door, convertible, Traveller, van, pick-up?

2 door or 4 door, I don't mind either. Unleaded head would be my preferred option and maybe even an alternator conversion too.
I'd like to get one I can use from the outset, maintain and slowly improve.

Your request doesnt sound strange at all, I was asking exactly the same thing at the end of last year when I made the decision that a moggy was going to be my first classic. It’s a shame you’re not closer to me as you would have been more than welcome to come and meet Nellie - although I’m also a total newbie so wouldn’t have much in the way of brains to pick.

Before I bought Nell, I got in touch with my local MMOC and joined up, then went along to their meeting. I met some really lovely people who were full of advice and a few of them had brought their cars along so I met a few of them too - definitely worth seeing if there is a club in your area, it’s a good place to start and somebody in the club may know of someone who is selling :)

You can find your local MMOC branch here:

https://branches.mmoc.org.uk/

You would be in Area 10 - West Midlands, but I have just realised a Branch only appears in the list if they have an event scheduled for the month which seems a bit odd. Malvern Hills branch doesn't appear for example, so click on April to see a longer list.

We are in Bromsgrove and have had a 1959 Traveller since 2010. You are welcome to come over and take a look if you want.

I think perhaps you need to define what you mean by 'improve'. :-?
There's no point in buying a 1950s/60s vehicle if what you really want is a 1980s/90s one... :-?

Thank you for the responses on here.

KeithL in Bromsgrove... I've tried to message you but it appears 'stuck'.
May I take you up on your kind offer?

Please message me.
