Help needed with transport !

Post by bmcecosse »

I have bought a crank in Darlington - and the seller also has a good block he is willing to sell me! However - the transport arrangement we had thought will work seems to have failed- does anyone travel from darlington area up to central scotland from time to time - and would be willing to lug these up here ? They don't need to be delivered right to my door - I can collect anywhere in central Scotland - and of course i will contribute towards petrol expense ! Or does anyone have any other good idea how to do this ? Used to be Red Parcel service on the trains - has it gone now ? Special Parcel with Royal Mail will be too expensive for the block but if needs be i will use it for the crank. All/any suggestions / offers of help will be very much appreciated !

arrange for a courier to pick them up would be best I think, www.postvan.com will deliver heavy items but it will cost a fair bit for a cylinder block.

That's the trouble - too expensive to make it worth while. We had hoped a visting student would courier the things up to Scotland - but seems he says they will take up too much room ! Only a bare block and a bare crank - could just sit on the front seat passenger floor !

I'd help as I go past Darlington on my way up to Newcastle, but Newcastle is as far as I go! Sorry. :(

Thanks Cam - but where do you travel from - any where near Leeds or Ilkley ?? I have someone there who could be 'persuaded' to bring them up to Scotland on his regular trips - but he is not willing to swing by Darlington. If they could be picked up and taken back to Leeds area - I could probably get him to collect them.

A lad on the Minifinity forum has pointed me to www.e-parcels.co.uk - seems they will pick up and deliver up to 30kg for £9.75 (maybe + vat - not clear on that). This may be the way to do it !

bmcecosse, I pass Leeds on my way from Stoke to Newcastle (and vice versa), but if it's only going to cost a tenner then perhaps that's the way to go.

Just for your info though, I leave Stoke at 8pm on Sunday night and arrive in Newcastle at around 11pm. I leave Newcastle at around 3pm (or 8pm) on Friday and arrive in Stoke at around 7pm (or 11pm).

Mant thanks Cam - and I appreciate the help you are offering. I know the crank can be posted for abot £8, and provided the block weighs less than 30Kg then I think that will be the way to go. Unfortunately the seller has gone all quiet on me at the moment !

BMCecosse,

if you can wait until early-mid October, I'll be heading up to Scotland as my folks live there on the east coast (by Montrose), I either go M6 way or A1 way and I notice the A1 goes right by Darlington.

is that any good to you? which part of central Scotland are you in??
Cheers John - all comments IMHO

Very kind of you to offer cj - I can certainly wait, but I doubt the seller will wait ! I think I will just pay the carriage - but thanks for the kind offer. I am about 20 miles south of Glasgow - beside the M74. And Montrose is an ACE place !! Used to holiday there every year - until I discovered Tenerife !
