Re: extra holes
If it were me I'd just put in a rubber grommet.
Sorry, I just had a thought. If the hole is in the inner wing then a grommet would be fine. But if you are talking about the wings then I would weld in a patch as this would be permanent.

Re: extra holes
It's not a trivial job unfortunately. Needs metal welded in, cleaned up and then painted to match the rest of the wing. Anything else is a bodge. If the wings are good and solid this is worth doing but if they are in poor condition it might be easier just to buy new wings. Expensive though and they always need fettling to get them to fit.

Re: extra holes
Fiberglass in my opinion is only going to be a relatively short term fix. If there's any corrosion or underseal on the back of the wing it will allow corrosion to creep in over time and crack around the joint area. If you do go that route you will need to use something like a wax protection over the back of the fiberglass to help hold out corrosion.
Lead, you can't fill a hole that size just using lead, you can use it to stick a steel patch into place though, lead and the appropriate flux is easily available, but it's not the easiest thing to do, it's another one that all the YouTubers make look easy, but like everything it requires practice, quite a lot of,
Welding is by far the obvious option, in my opinion, most restoration companies are used to people carrying a panel or panel's through the door and asking for a small repair to be done, we often get this, you would be amazed at what we get asked to weld up, straighten out, etc etc. so if you have a local restorer have a chat, you might be surprised how little they charge to help you out. But remember to protect the back of the panels as soon as possible to stop the rust, and the front obviously,
Oh and one last thing, don't present the wings covered in mud, grease and underseal, people are much happier to deal with small jobs like this if everything is as clean and prepared as possible, and their time costs you more money.

Re: extra holes
I would clean the inner up, find a tin can lid ( or whatever else is handy ) and JBWeld it inside ,it'll go off overnight then some filler from the front...rub down...paint .Easy-Peasey ??

Re: extra holes
If you go down this route then file off the edges of the hole first so the filler edge tapers out. Otherwise, the join between the metal and filler will be more visible, even after painting. I'd maybe go for something a bit thicker than a tin can lid......

Re: extra holes
Wouldn’t it be better to leave the extra indicators if the alternative is a tin can lid and filler? It sounds awful. These cars have been through their old banger phase. They deserve a bit more respect than this!

Re: extra holes
I made a temporary repair to a hole on the inner wing of my range rover several years ago by ceaning the area back to shiny metal, epoxy primering it and a piece of steel which overlapped the hole then gluing the patch in and painting it. 5 years later still looks perfect. Many modern cars are glued together, if you start with sound metal no reason it shouldn't last.

Re: extra holes
Its only an option - and maybe not the best. But OP says the indicators are 'hideous' to him, so no wonder he wants rid of them......

Re: extra holes
Yes I understand the "hideous" but a bodge might be more hideous! It would be good to see what the indicators actually look like....myoldjalopy wrote: ↑Wed Feb 18, 2026 10:58 amIts only an option - and maybe not the best.
