Routing brake pipe & wiring loom.

Post by BobM »

After a two year long weldathon, I am finally ready to reassemble my Traveller. Sadly I clearly didn't note a number of details.
Can anyone explain how the wiring loom and brake pipe, pass the clutch pedal mechanism and gearbox crossmember. I have routed the petrol pipe along side the chassis box section and through the cutout at the end of the crossmember on the other side. was that wrong? Clearly if pipes run through both ends of the crossmember, it becomes very difficult to remove it.
Note, I am fitting front discs and a servo. The brake pipe brake pipe will be going from front to back. So sliding the crossmember to the rear will not clear the pipes.

In conjunction with Bill's diagram does this picture help at all?

You may have done so as part of the engine bay spruce up but if not I would suggest that you put a piece of split pipe around the brake pipes where they go under the clips. The pipes do vibrate/move under the original BMC welded on clips and any movement of the pipe can wear through it. Also that 'P' clip (near/side) does not appear to have any insert as it should have.
I have replaced the BMC fold over clips with 'P' clips with rubber insert as used on Landrovers.

OK Phil I'll look at that when I have the car back. It's away for paint at the moment.

Thanks for your responses. Whilst helpful, my confusion is centred on the clutch mechanism and gearbox crossmember.

The fuel line and the front brake line go over the cross member. Only the loom goes through the cut-out.
