This right Stephen. The nuts do make contact with the torsion bar, if they are fitted the wrong way around. The bolt heads have a reduced thickness to clear the torsion bar.

I didn’t realise there was a special tool for this purpose, I thought you just eased the bar away to remove the bolts, I’ve done this in the past, it’s been mentioned before on the forum, and works. Mind you if one has the special tool, might as well use it !

Hello Les.
I am not sure how people have managed to bend the torsion bar out of the way.
When I use the spreader it takes a lot of force from the pump to move the bar clear.
The spreader fits perfectly between the 2 gear box cover screws on the floor pan and fits between the master cylinder bolts for removal. and will hold the bar safely until the job is done.
It is true that I have never used the other items in the set, but you never know when they may be usefull.
Of course paying for fitting the master cylinder in a garage will cost more for the man hours to remove the torsion bar.
But what they will not tell us is that they used the spreader and have the job done in under a hour.

And of course, the set is probably for sale, used on one of those auction sites for much less than the retail price.
