Late Minor Toolkit

Now that my Minor is away (since this morning) for further beatification (bodywork) I am immediately bereft and thinking about things I can do that are car related but don't need me to have the car.

My car has never had any of the original toolkit except the starting handle (slightly bent) since I first owned it rather a long time ago. Since the car should be extremely presentable on its return and will doubtless be scrutinised at shows, I would like to put together the parts of an original toolkit. These will probably never be used (except a non-bent starting handle) but only for display.

Does anybody have a picture of the items in the toolkit for a late car (1969)? I have never even seen the plastic pouch. I have searched on this forum but the links to photos are missing and I cannot find pictures elsewhere either.

You can pick them out of here, which shows both Series MM / II and Minor 1000. The radiator protector was, I think, unique to the MM.

I am also using the time whilst the car is away for a major garage tidy and tool sort out.

Some of my spanners have been used by me so much that their tool rolls are falling to pieces. I have some new ones in leather and in canvas and I want to label them with the spanner sizes so that they are easy to find at a glance. At the same time clean up all of the commonly used tools and put them in sensible places.

I had to clear everything out of the car. There was so much stuff in the boot and secreted under the boot shelf. Tools, parts, bit of wood to cushion a jack, foam pad to lean on etc etc etc.

Driving the car to East Sussex it was far more lively without all of that dead weight in the boot. Silly really as it has been costing me in fuel. All I had in my stripped down boot was a warning triangle and a high-vis vest. No tools at all. I felt as if I was naked!

I assume by that you mean the guide tube, or 'guide - handle' to use the BMC parts list terminology.

It went on for much longer than the 'MM'.
My March '55 Series II saloon has it, but it doesn't feature in the '1000' parts list.
The LCV parts list however is far more interesting as it covers all production.
Looking at the various cessation vehicle numbers, it seems LCV of all types stopped fitting it March 56, 6 months before the change to s3 production.
Perhaps the cars did that too.

Just to supplement the image posted by firedrake, here's the one from the AKD 3541 (sect MR), which lists the relevant change points for some items.

Many people, including reference works such as the Original Morris Minor, think the jacking points and jack design changed from the outset of s3 vehicles.
According to the AKD 3541, it didn't occur until almost a year later, at approximately vehicle 543497.

Although I have now sold my refurbished jacks / starting handles, I still have some Tommy bars and cleaned Tecalamit grease guns (with replica label) and hte wire screwdrivers available.

I have one of those grease guns, but nothing to do with my Minor; it was in the tools I cleared out of my late father's garage/workshop when he died some 30+ years ago. I've seen examples around quite often at autojumbles.
Where he acquired it from I've no idea, he never had a BMC/BL car that I recollect.
I have photos of him on holidays in the early 60s, often with Vauxhalls, but I think back then he used to hire a car for the family holiday.

The grease gun on the right is a Tecalemit GC3020 I think. I have found one in my garage and I assume it is in fact the grease gun from my car's tool kit but I do not know for sure.

So far I have sourced:


Plastic envelope
Jack
Starting handle (I do have one but mine is bent)
Hub cab removal tool
Wire screwdriver


I am looking for: spark plug box spanner and Tommy bar.

I think that completes all the tools for a 1969 (MAT5) as some of the tools that were supplied with earlier cars were deleted from the tool kit for later cars. E.g feeler gauge, drain plug tool.

Is there any consensus on the correct shade of red for the starting handle and jack?

I am thinking Traffic Red RAL 3020 is a reasonable match or perhaps Signal Red RAL 3001 (RD32 which is a BMC colour).
