Words to live by! 8)
Words that have now bit me in the bum as the modern decided to break down today when my housemate was using it. She managed to get it home but tomorrow I’ll have to take it to the garage to see what’s occurring

I think it’s showing off because it’s jealous of the attention the new arrival is getting

The picture posted by firedrake looks like it's fitted with wider rims, possibly van wheels?
Compare to standard saloon wheel in pic.

Aah yes that makes sense… I believe one of her previous owners had a van which he took parts off, her gearbox is out of a van I do know that… so the wheels could have come off that same van

Van rim LP917
How does it compare. ————- can be difficult to tell from pictures, I initially thought they may be the rarer LP936 rims, a set of which I am looking for.

If they are van rims then I believe you can safely put 165s on them.

But don't take my word for it!

:D What's the numbers just off the top of the 2nd image, where we can read 'R14 81T'.
That'll tell us what's fitted at the moment.
They do look quite wide, with a 'modern' tread pattern.

The definitive answer can be found by removing a hubcap, on one of the three hubcap locating bosses, there will be a number stamped in, the paint can sometimes make this difficult to read, it will be LP something or other ! However it’s academic really just if you wanted to know :D

That's probably 165 rather than 16s.

To someone in the know, aren't standard saloon tires 145 with people these days often using 155's?

You may be right… so perhaps these aren’t saloon wheels but van wheels?

A 165/70R14 tyre size means the tyre is 165mm wide and its sidewall height is 70% of that width (the aspect ratio).
A 'standard' Minor car Tyre is 145/80, 80% being the standard aspect ratio when radial tyres first appeared.
Some people fit 155/80 as they are a more common size, therefore easier to get hold of.

You'll see or hear people talking about wheels being 4J, 4.5J etc, that's basically the width of the rim.
LCV (vans etc) originally had 4J wheels, the same as the cars, but when they went from 6cwt to 8cwt, they fitted wider wheels for the extra load.

You've almost certainly got 4.5J wheels.

Aah ok, so van wheels, makes sense.

Hoping the wheel clamp I’ve just ordered will fit - says 13-15 inch… I thought the 14 on the end of the number meant that the tyre width was 14… and it measured as about 14”

Aah well it’s Amazon so I guess I can return it if it doesn’t fit!

The clamp will be fine.

If you have van wheels you are good for up to 165 x 14 tyres. I wouldn't go above 155 x 14 on standard rims, and even that is advised against in some quarters.

Actually have I messed up?
I’ve ordered this wheel clamp as it says 13”-15” and I thought yeah that should fit… but reading the description it seems to imply it’s more for trucks?
https://www.amazon.co.uk/GREENSAPPIRE-U ... B0FZSF3WQ9

There was another one which was for caravans/trailers etc… but said 15”-17” so I wasn’t sure if that was too big?

The style of clamp in your link above is correct and good for use on a Minor 14" wheel.
My only concern is for the width of the wrap around arms. The wrap around arms need to be a snug fit around the tyres
The bulldog clamp (see photo below) I used has adjustable width arms which can be set snug to the tyre.
