Front Wings + centre panel?

In an ideal world, which should go in front of the other? might save a bit of juggling later.

Centre panel in front of wings. The fiddliest 6 nuts and bolts on the car are the 6 that hold the chrome hockey sticks onto the front panel. They will be either 2BA or 1/8" BSF.

If you have the chance use stainless nuts and washers and apply copper grease. It will be a lot easier to undo next time.

The 6x hockey stick nuts are 2BA as are the 3x lower centre machine screws and nuts.

A 2BA socket is very useful to have as is a 2BA open spanner. Only one of the hockey stick nuts cannot be removed with a socket as it is too tight in the corner of the wing. An open spanner will work for that one.

Thanks for the thoughts and info, I am using all new chrome strips from ESM, the old ones were K nackered.

Its coming along quite steadily at the moment.

Very nice. It all seems to be lining up rather well. Don't forget the rubbers on the ends of the wings before you fit the front panel. I did and had to take the panel off again. Also it's much easier to fit the engine with the front panel off and much less chance of damaging your lovely new paint.

Also as I see you are doing a total rebuild, don't forget that there should be a grommet underneath the bracket that guides the bonnet release rod. If you leave this out the rod will rattle.

A mod that I fitted with the intention of it being temporary whilst restoring the front end was the extending bonnet prop. This was so useful I have left it on permanently. I am in the process of doing an order for all the rubber bits that need replacing, so will be sure to add them on in a minute.

For sure the front grill and the bonnet will come off when I put the engine gearbox back in, I've got a lifter so its not too bad a job.

Yes its a total rebuild, hoping to have it on the road for my Birthday in April, THIS year, was supposed to be last year, but well umm, some things took much longer.

To remove the hockey stick, I like to remove the headlamp bowl,( if it will come off easily).
It allows great access to the nuts, especially the top one.
Much easier than working from the underneath of the wing.

Actually you do get used to the job and it is possible to do it all entirely by feel. If the front wheels are off the ground you can easily move the wheel to full lock which gives better access. There should be a washer, spring washer and then the 2BA nut.
