Which workshop manual?

I have a late car built '70 first registered '71.

Presumably, in theory, I need the last/latest workshop manual to cover the car.

Can anyone tell me what part number or issue this might be?

I'm fed up with having to refer to my computer, I'd much rather a nice oil stained paper tome!

Buy a secondhand one. They're cheaper and readily available
And you won't have to worry about putting your oily fingers on it

And the distribution of oily fingerprints on different pages will give you a rough idea of what parts tend to go wrong

Looking at 'e' bay for the issue 14 manual the S/H ones when postage is included they are roughly equivalent to the same price as the new issue listed in my post above which has free postage.
No way am I paying approximately the same total price for a S/H issue - I would want new with no finger prints or oil smudges.

I have one of the Brooklands Books bound reprint in the blue cover, but I also have the free pdf download.
Best of both worlds.
The book for looking through and I can print off from the pdf any pages I need for working up the garage....

Presumably if I get a 'hard copy' of the manual nothing will ever go wrong?

Ring-bound copies turn up at Autojumbles but you have to be careful that they are complete and it is the wrong time of year for car shows. Also you do need the revision noted above for the late-car wiring diagram in particular.

Personally, I'm not a great lover of sellers such as that on ebay; but at least they're honest in their business name 'PDF 2 PRINT'.
They have literally made a business of getting the free pdf that can be found readily available online, printed it off and put it in a 2 ring binder, not even a 4 ring.
That's about £5 for paper and binder, plus the actual costs of running the (probably) Laser printer.
They could be easily be making over £20 a sale, for running this business from home, a nice little earner.

They can't even be bothered to get the pages configured, i.e. inserting the relevant blanks between sections where required. So where have shown the pages, the page numbers have moved to the spine side of the page. I know it's a little thing, but to me it's showing that they're more interested in making money than in the product they're selling.
I wouldn't mind betting it's on the cheapest, or lowest grade paper they could find....

There's people asking £50+ for the Blue bound ones on fleabay, it's only £35 new on Amazon.

If I wanted it ring bound, I'd rather get that, carefully slice the binding of and put it in a 4 ring binder

In the interest of full disclosure, there is one reproduction issue I have found with the blue bound one and that is figure EE2 being blurred. The pdf version (shown here) is much clearer:

What is important is that the information contained in the workshop manual (whoever the supplier) is correct and is the same as contained in the original factory produced edition/issue 14.
What you are buying is the contained information especially as it is not a factory produced edition/issue - they are all faux reproduction editions/issues whoever the supplier/printer.

If you are bothered about format and how its bound, then why not print and bind your own personal copy from the free to download online pdf. Or just print the required pages for the job in hand if you prefer a piece of paper to work with.

Many current manufacturers no longer produce or use paper manuals, they are digital and linked to the diagnostics so can be called up on screen, whilst working on the vehicle. They are vin driven and usually auto read from vehicles ECU, preventing wrong or outdated information being used. Its easier for updating, rectifying errors and not degraded with use.

You're missing the point, I said "I know it's a little thing," I was simply using it as an indication as to the quality of the product.
Someone making easy money from those who know no better.
Just like those trying to resell the blue one for £50+.

Bill thank you the link above.
I have just bought one of the Brooklands publications for the Morris Minor even though I have numerous Morris Minor workshop manuals going back many years - you can never have too much information.
It will be interesting to see the quality of the publication and if issue 14 is worth the money.

As regards 'World of Books' I am always purchasing publications from them (not just about Minors) and have never been disappointed with the quality and service provided by them.

I laid out my opinion of that listing and my reasoning for it, it's wasn't intended as a point for discussion.

Incidentally, the Brooklands book bears a copyright notice; how that may apply to printing and retailing the pdf of the original BL document, rather than their reproduction, I have no idea. However, Brooklands are a massive heritage publishing house.

Searching for the ISBN 9781855201576 reveals several places selling AKD530 at prices far exceeding the RRP, it's only £35 direct from Brooklands on Amazon. Just goes to show how Classic Car owners can get ripped off if they don't shop around....

I found this listing on a well known online Book selling site.... Almost double the RRP for a new copy.

Well the 'World of Books' final cost was £25.11 with free postage.
So my final opinion will be based upon condition and if previous books I have purchased from them are anything to go by I will not be disappointed.

Well I haven't bought one yet, indeed I feel a bit shamefaced for starting this off!

There is little logic to pricing but having spent a lifetime in publishing I would prefer to get something that has a copyright line in it. At least this would show that whoever produced it has made an effort to attain the rights to publish from the current copyright holder.

I don't mind oily fingerprints but will draw the line at blood!
