Cross member for ford type 9 gearbox

Post by Lodgebaker »

Hi all - having recently bought the Midget engine advertised here - I am also mating that with a ford type gearbox and am searching for a Crossmember to fit all into my 1971 morris traveller.

JLH no longer have one as they are closing down shortly. Any ideas where I might get one - I pretty well think i have everything else.

Whilst I do not have a Ford type 9 gearbox fitted I do have a Ford 2000E gearbox fitted.
To fit the 2000E gearbox I used the original Minor gearbox crossmember fitted with a Ford gearbox mount fitted inside the crossmember.
The type 9 gearbox because of the added overdrive casing has the mount further back.
I had to lower the Minor crossmember about 13mm to make it all fit so what you could do is use the original mount holes to fit two support brackets under the chassis legs making sure that the support brackets are long enough and wide enough to support the Minor crossmember to the rear of the original crossmember holes.
Fit the crossmember to the gearbox and determine the correct position for the gearbox crossmember. Mark and drill the bolt holes.
Fit the bolts and the gearbox should be supported as required.

Moss Europe are still listing 5-speed conversions, so they should be able to provide a cross member to suit. See https://www.moss-europe.co.uk/en-gb/veh ... riveshaft/

Thanks I've just tried them today and they say they have nothing. I'll keep trying but thank you very much for the link.
