So according to my research the ULEZ exemption goes on tax class not engine size… and as the engine has been swapped to one that is still in the same ‘family’ she should technically be okay….

I stand corrected, I have looked at the ULEZ checker and it IS ULEZ exempt.
But as I say, DVSA have only been notified of the change in engine CC in the last few days, and I have not yet received the new V5.

Vehicles with "Historic Vehicle" tax class are exempt from the London ULEZ charge.

A slightly larger engine of the same A-series family does not affect the Historic Tax class.

When I put in my number plate it said I was ULEZ compliant (and thanked me for driving a non-polluting vehicle ) and had no daily fee to pay, but said I would be applicable for some bridge/tunnel charge and a charge for driving within the Center of London.

Yes. If the car has Historic Vehicle tax class it is London ULEZ exempt but it is NOT exempt from the London congestion charge.

Well I have no plans or driving into London so that’s fine! But we are just outside of London so every possibility that ULEZ may extend to our town in the near future… I was quite scared for a bit.

And remember it will be exempt from needing an MOT.
But it will not be exempt from the requirement to keep it in a roadworthy condition; for which an MOT Pass is evidence; albeit only for that one (Test) moment in time; not for the following 364 days.
As discussed elsewhere, many Minor owners prefer to MOT their cars annually. For £50, it's a bargain safety check.

Oh I will most definitely be MOTing mine, especially as I plan to use her as a daily! Thankfully there is a very good garage near me with two old school mechanics who actually know how a classic works!

Historic vehicles

Two categories of historic vehicles are exempt from ULEZ:

All vehicles built before 1 January 1973
Vehicles over 40 years old that have been successfully registered with the DVLA for a historic vehicle tax class

If your vehicle meets the above criteria but is registered outside the UK, it is also exempt, but you will need to register it with us before travelling in the zone.

All factory produced Minors were built before the end of 1971, therefore all Minors are exempt from ULEZ. No problem.
