Saloon boot handle

I'm certain this issue may have been covered before but my searches aren't finding it.

I am new to Morris Minor ownership and have a 1964 1098 2door saloon that I am really pleased with. My issue is with the boot lock, it latches perfectly and releases nicely but the locking has me confused. I can get 180 degrees turn on the lock and the handle will then only turn a quarter, if unlocked, the handle turns a full half turn, The issue I have is that I only need to turn the handle one eighth of a turn to open the boot, so wether it is locked or unlocked, the boot is still able to be opened. Can someone please explain what's going on?
I have replaced the complete handle with a new one but got exactly the same results. Is there a difference between saloon, Traveller or van, have I simply got the wrong handle?

It may be that the latch and/or the striker plate are worn and/or the striker plate requires adjustment. When fitting the replacement, I presume that both the handle and the lock were new?

Hi, yes, both handle and lock are new. Is it normal for the handle to only need a 1/8th turn to open the boot?

No. When key locked, handle should not move more than maybe 1-2mm. When unlocked, at least 1/4 turn to release open boot. Check the hook and striker plate for wear, and the plate can be adjusted.

Sounds like you've found the issue. If the handle should not move when locked and both of mine are moving a full ¼ turn whilst locked then clearly both are faulty in some way. Cannot see any adjustment that I can make though, hook and striker are both new
