Used swivel pins

Hello from Australia. Can anyone advise me what l should be looking for when l check out a set of second hand swivel pins for my Minor 1000? Any pitfalls or common issues to look out for ? Thanks in anticipation,

You should in the first instance make sure that the swivel threads are not sharp. The threads should have a flat top. If they are not flat then do not purchase them as they are worn.
If they are worn there is no point in fitting new trunnions.

Hi Glokk. I know things are a little difficult in Australia, but I would rather fit brand new swivel pins and trunnions. The ones you are looking at may be OK as a short term fix, buy you can not be sure of their history. I fitted new pins and trunnions in 1980 after the ten year old ones failed in the classic way. 45 years of daily use and frequent greasing they are still serviceable. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Thank you both for your replies. Phil, your advice was exactly what l was needing, thznk you. And yes l would normally go straight for new, but with freight to Oz from ESM, l almost choked. Well l did choke actually, ha ha, so l thought l would explore the second hand option first. I would like to say that l have no issue with ESM whatsoever, having purchased on numerous occasions in the past. The freight on a pair with trunnions to Oz is significant.
