Morris 1000 twin carb needle selection
Hello, I’m Justin and this is William my 1957 Morris, in an effort to coax a little more pace from William I have recently fitted a skimmed 12g295 head and a pair of 1.25” HS2 carbs to his 948cc engine. Since fitting the carbs I can’t get him to run smoothly through the rev range, currently using a pair of V3 needles but at higher RPM and wide open throttle the engine feels stuttery and lacks power, the plugs indicate the overall mixture is about right. I wondered if anyone has experience of a similar setup and which needles they used.

Re: Morris 1000 twin carb needle selection
Because your engine is not totally standard I would suggest that the needles listed immediately below are used as a starting point:-
AN is the standard needle, the weak needle is GG and the rich needle is H6. Data for Sprite Mk3 which is near to what you have.
The needle alternatives are for a twin 1.25" SU set up on a 948cc engine is V3 standard, V2 rich and GX weak. Data for Sprite Mk 2 which is also close to what you have.

Thanks for that, at least I’ll only have to buy one AN if it’s the have one from the standard carb
