Horizontal Lower Door to Sill Seals

The seals at the bottom of my doors (2-door) are falling off.

Is this the right seal? I have never fitted one of these. Searching the forum reveals old posts but no pictures. Any advice much appreciated!

I think I've worked it out. It looks like I will have to remove the old clips, work out where the holes need to be in the new seal, make holes, push clips through seal and then fit assembly to the door.

There isn't so much give in the new seals plus your originals were well used, so you may find you may need to slam the door harder with the new seals.

Yes, that's right. I did the same with mine about 10 years ago.....

Yes thats right, you have to make your own holes in the new rubber, I did mine last year. I also found some of the clips were rusted and brittle, so ordered them with the rubbers. Ijust drilled holes and pushed the clips through, rather than trying to make rectangular holes.

Ok thank you. I've ordered the seals and new clips. I've found drilling rubber tricky in the past. I do have some hollow hole pouches for leather that might work.

Stephen, if you don't have it from the old door seals, you will also need the metal strip that sits inside the rubber seal https://www.morrisminorspares.com/body- ... es-p828181 to give some rigidity. The clips go through the rubber and the metal strip and hold both the door.

Thank you. Yes I have the metal strip and it looks in good shape. I will do both sides because the other side rubber is almost as bad.

The parts have arrived but it will be tomorrow's task. I just finished an oil and filter change, checking and slight adjust of ignition timing and idle speed, mixture tweak, and sorting out an oil leak from the diff drain (which meant draining the diff). This is the 1,500 mile checklist for the rebuilt engine (except the diff of course). I did the valve clearances and head nut torques yesterday. Annoyingly, there was a slight drip from the timing chain cover (again!) and the bolts had worked slightly loose. I gently tightened them and the leak is gone but if this happens again I will have to use some thread locker. I got baked in my overalls so I've had enough now!

Sounds like you have had a somewhat busy but productive afternoon. Good to get the 1500 mile service and hopefully the engine sounds and feels better. Good to get some reassurance that all is well after the first 1500 miles also. A warm afternoon for it but probably better than being too cold. I'm sure the door seals can wait for another day.

I have done the side that was falling off. A cup of tea restored me.

Removing the metal strip with a plastic trim tool. The clip fits between the prongs of the tool. Plastic so as not to gouge the paint.

Old seal fitted around the metal strip. Flat side to face of door; curved side outwards. U-shaped channel faces downwards so as not to collect water.

Fitting metal strip into channel of new sealing rubber. Holes can be pierced with a bradawl or screwdriver. New clips may need to be eased into position with pliers unless you have very strong fingers. When all the clips are fitted through the metal strip and the rubber, the excess rubber can be trimmed from the end with a Stanley knife.
