Which plate (s) are you talking about? Photos may assist.

Only via a Heritage certificate from the BMIHT This will have the original details on including original VRM and car / chassis numbers. A photo of the car would help as grey was a broad term for BMC eg Smoke Grey looks light blue. It could also have been repainted.

That's interesting, I spent a day at the heritage records office and the one detail not recorded on the chassis I looked up, was the VRM just the selling dealer and date.
Are you sure they don't just use the VRM listed by dvla?

You can normally be offered a selective choice of reg plate at the dealership. Presumably all other details are submitted to DVLA prior to leaving the factory. Probably no requirement for dealer to forward them the reg.

The one I was looking for was sold in your county Kent Les but even after paying the local archives to search 12 months records they couldn't find it from the vin. :-?
Sold by J.C. Beadle Dartford Kent
Its not unknown for dealers to move stock to other dealers/ areas if not sold.

Or you can ask, for free, the DVLA for your cars history. They will send you copies (names/addressed redacted) of all the V5 forms so you can see each time your car changed hands and info they have on colour, engine number, VIN right back to its first registration. Thats how i know mine is still on the original engine but was white when new in 64, then resprayed blue in 69, then back to white in 83, and then Bermunda blue in 2001.

That depends on the quality of the records held.
My car is March 1955
The only 'Old Green County Logbook' they had was from Lincolnshire in 1965
Records resumed in 1978

It also took me 3 goes at getting the details as the first numpty rejected the request out of hand and I appealed.
The resubmission was 'lost without a trace' despite being addressed to an individual officer of the DVLA, hence I applied a 3rd time....

Bill, you mentioned Beadles of Dartford, I used to live a couple of miles from them in the sixties, I’m not far from the site now. Always in the spares department for my Mini. It’s long gone now of course. The showroom at the front, spares store down the side between the cinema and showroom. It’s now Wetherspoons ! Pictures then and now. ( well maybe now and then !) Thread drifting a bit but hey. :D

Well found, made me smile. At times it makes you feel ones past life is being dismantled piece by piece. I’ll stop there, before I get too deep ! :-?
