Well, the chap who said he'd be happy to help has popped over to China for his work. Fair enough.
Rather than hang around I thought I'd have a go myself.
First though I did a little research and came upon a very useful video on YouTube:

In this he uses a double suction cup to great effect, like him I also took two attempts to persuade it into place.
The hot soapy (car wash not Fairy liquid -- too much salt content) helps to ease things allot.
However, at first I was unable to get the suction cups to grip with more than one pad at any one time, due to the curved shape of the rear window.
I have no idea how he manages it in the video.
My solution was to reshape the suction cups handle by heating it up with a plumbers blow torch, to the point its really hot and catches fire -- the plastic handle is by necessity quite thick, so takes a fair amount of heat to make it pliable.
Once hot enough to be reshaped I clamped one cup to the window and holding the other firmly down bent the handle just enough for the second cup to be able to be clamped and grip at the same time as the other one.
With one hand now free I proceeded to sponge the handle with soapy water out of the bucket, to cool it back down enough to set the handle in its new slightly curved shape.
The pads had also been dunked in the soapy water to warm them up and aid suction.
Of course this means that this suction pad is now specific to Morris Minor curved windows!
However, this being a Series 2, the front screen halves are flat......
So I will need to buy a second double suction pad for them........

I used hard plastic as I didn't want to chip the paint on the edge......
Unfortunately the rope I was using to pull the rubber over the lip did this for me anyway in a couple of places.....
C'est la vie.....
I'm posting this by the way, not to try to teach anyone who has done this already to suck eggs but so that anyone who hasn't might feel encouraged to give it a go.
After all if I can do it.....
