948cc Engine and the rest!

Post by Schryverh »

948 Engine CURRENTLY IN THE CAR AND RUNNING but won’t be for more than a couple of weeks. Only driven it 7 miles back from the auction but pulls well and very smooth apart from a little tappet/timing chain rattle. Available with gearbox, carb, exhaust, ignition etc. Video of it running is available. Collection from Ashford, Kent. Any offers over £75 will be considered.

Are you certain that the engine in question is a 948cc 'A' Series unit as it has all the accoutrements of a 1098cc 'A' Series unit.
Has it got 950 cast into the nearside of the engine block?

Sold, registered and insured as a 948 but now I’m not so sure. I’m withdrawing this from sale until I can establish what it is. Apologies to all those interested. Casting number is almost obliterated and may not be decipherable until the engine is out of the car. Again, my apologies.

I brought my Minor on the understanding that it was a 948, even had a letter from a garage stating that they had inspected it for a previous owner, when they were trying to update the V5C with DVLA, but they had got it wrong.
You don't have to strip it to see the part numbers!
I've redacted the garage details as they are still trading.. ..
I only discovered the error when doing a deep dive into part numbers as I explored the finer details of the car.
I find that taking photos with your phone at slightly different angles works wonders for deciphering part numbers.
