Why do you have to use lacquer on top of some paint finishes please?

Re: Lacquer
Because many modern paint finishes are matt, so require a clear gloss on top to provide a shine

Re: Lacquer
Yes, they are known as 'Clear over Base'. Your paint supplier will explain how they can supply it and in which form, Cellulose, 1k acrylic, 2k C over B and 2k one coat that dries super shiny, almost wet look. There's also the modern water based, which is not really for home use. I think the straight one coat 2 pack looks too plasticky for old motors in this form. I tend to use Clear over base, and dribble a small amount of the basecoat into my gun with the lacquer, just to dull that really shing finish slightly.
Messin' with Morris (and Austin) for half a century!

Ah, gone are the days when you sprayed your finished restoration with cellulose paint plus a bit of thinners, then gave it a polish a few days later ! Life was so much simpler then !

Re: Lacquer
Thanks folks.
A friend told me that he bought a 2k (?) aerosol. I think you pulled a tab in the base to activate it.
I am guessing they are as dangerous to use without a respirator as 2k that you put in a gun?

Re: Lacquer
Is there anything that can go wrong spraying lacquer?
For example, spraying a lacquer aerosol over a disappointing cellulose aerosol paint finish?
