Why do you have to use lacquer on top of some paint finishes please?

Because many modern paint finishes are matt, so require a clear gloss on top to provide a shine :)

Yes, they are known as 'Clear over Base'. Your paint supplier will explain how they can supply it and in which form, Cellulose, 1k acrylic, 2k C over B and 2k one coat that dries super shiny, almost wet look. There's also the modern water based, which is not really for home use. I think the straight one coat 2 pack looks too plasticky for old motors in this form. I tend to use Clear over base, and dribble a small amount of the basecoat into my gun with the lacquer, just to dull that really shing finish slightly.

Ah, gone are the days when you sprayed your finished restoration with cellulose paint plus a bit of thinners, then gave it a polish a few days later ! Life was so much simpler then ! :D

Thanks folks.

A friend told me that he bought a 2k (?) aerosol. I think you pulled a tab in the base to activate it.
I am guessing they are as dangerous to use without a respirator as 2k that you put in a gun?

Is there anything that can go wrong spraying lacquer?
For example, spraying a lacquer aerosol over a disappointing cellulose aerosol paint finish?
