Remote brake servo angle
Hi all, I'm still having fun with my new to me minor brakes, the previous owned has fitted a Ford disk brake conversion and remote servo, unfortunately the brakes are shocking, he has confirmed he didn't remove the seal from the master cylinder, which is this weekend job but he has also fitted the servo next to the distributor hitting the leads and cap. I'm going to move the servo to the other inner wing, but don't have any instructions for the mounting angles and will be 're piping so servo works on all wheels, my question is does anyone know what angle the servo needs fitting at please or has a picture of fitting instructions, I have no problem with piping up that is easy, thanks, Steve
Re: Remote brake servo angle
Hi Steve
You haven't said what kind of servo you have but the one in my car is original and fitted as shown in the photo.

Re: Remote brake servo angle
Maybe that's why I don't notice any braking assistance then?
So this isn't how they were fitted from the factory?

Re: Remote brake servo angle
The car never had a servo fitted at the factory. Any servo is an aftermarket modification

Re: Remote brake servo angle
I read somewhere that Police cars all had a factory fitted brake servo and were all DeLuxe models.

Re: Remote brake servo angle
I have a late (1969) Deluxe mode and it's never had a servo. I've never heard of Minors having a factory fitted servo. Some police cars had a Lucas positive earth alternator (to power radio equipment etc). I may be wrong of course, I often am.
According to the parts book AKD3541 a remote brake fluid reservoir was fitted to cars exported to "Belgium, Holland, Luxemborg and France" (sic) but no mention of a servo.

I meant to say that I beleive all Police Cars were DeLuxe models and possibly only the later one had a servo. I've been trying to find where I read it but have had no success so far so I suppose you can consider it rubbish until I can prove it.svenedin wrote: ↑Wed Mar 12, 2025 12:19 pm

Re: Remote brake servo angle
My servo is fitted nearside but have never had or felt the need for a remote resevoir. Checking the master under the carpet is no more time consuming than lifting the bonnet, but I suppose to some its more noticeable if you are not in the habit of regularly checking it.

Re: Remote brake servo angle
Hi all thanks for the advice and the picture, not sure what type it is yet as buried under the distributor, it does have the air valve mounted at the top and definitely not doing anything and the pedal doesn't dip on start up as it should with servo brakes. Busy weekend ahead

Re: Remote brake servo angle
Hi all just an update, brake servo now moved and re piped so it works on all 4 wheels, unfortunately on stripping the master cylinder to remove the seal for the disc conversion I found heavy pitting so brand new genuine cylinder fitted. After the fun of bleeding the brakes I took her for a run and a vast improvement, hopefully it will get better as all the new linings bed in. Time for set of new tyres now as the set on the car are 25 year old Michelins which still look good but way too old to trust. Thanks for all the advice.

Re: Remote brake servo angle
A servo is not mentioned in the original parts lists.
The Police spec vehicles were certainly NOT 'Deluxe' spec, Police specs varied by the different constabularies, of which there were well over 150 in the UK in the early 60s with 2/3rd of those having less than 350 officers.
Police specs has always been operational requirements only, usually plain black interior and not evening having heaters in the earliest cars in case it encouraged officers to keep in the warm instead of getting out and about. I've never seen any consideration of a Brake Servo.
The reason for mounting the Air Valve downwards is because the other way up traps air inside, that is impossible to remove.
There was a discussion about in back in 2021, which got some hackles up
