Air Filter / Air Filter Housing

Hi Everyone,

Proud owner of a 1959 1275cc Morris Traveller here, I'm in the Market for an Air Filter and associated Housing unit.

I'm a complete novice (please forgive my ignorance!) so was keen to hear peoples views and/or suggestions regarding preference for the best kit to purchase etc

First time poster so please be gentle (!), many thanks in advance!

Welcome, you will need to know which 1275 engine as it's not standard. If you post a picture of engine showing carburettor i'm sure someone will help.

If you were Charlie Manchester I'd say just a wire grill to stop stones and small animals from being ingested...

If you were Charlie Kalahari then an expensive K&N would be required...

But for London any filter would probably suit...

As you have a 1275cc engine fitted I would expect that you have at least a HS4 SU carb fitted. If you do then this is the type of air filter needed. You will need the adapter elbow which fits between the carb and air filter housing.

This is the one I use for a similar set up. Looking at your photo it looks like you will need the elbow too that fits onto the carb

I would also add it looks like you had cone filter fitted before . This is an alternative option to replace this.

I found the k&n type filter quite noisy.

I fitted an mgb air filter box with a K&N filter inside. This way you lose the angle mount so better air flow the air box has a hole you cant see on the other side and no induction noise from the K&N,

I fitted an mgb air filter box with a K&N filter inside. This way you lose the angle mount so better air flow the air box has a hole you cant see on the other side and no induction noise from the K&N, IMG_20240622_112458.jpg

I have a HS4 fitted and the Mini airbox fits with the appropriate elbow. The main inlet tract needs cutting off to clear the bulkhead and I bored a series of holes through the box for extra air flow
