Correctly reading my 948cc dipstick
As a first time Morris Minor owner I am assured there are no daft questions. I have a 948cc and the dipstick only has a full marker - no minimum. How should I be reading this ?. Is there a rule of thumb for the amount of oil to add when?. Thanks. John

I would top up to Max when the level drops to no more than half inch below.

If the oil is more than 1/2" (12mm) below the MAX mark then you should top up the oil to the MAX mark.

Thanks. Roughly how much oil should I be looking to add at 1/2 inch below max ?

Enough to reach the Full line....

The capacity, including filter, is 3.7 ltr (well actually 6.5 imperial pints, but it comes in Ltrs these days)
Personally, I always just put a 'few glugs' in and recheck.
It's not something I've ever really considered, on any car, I just add a 'little' at a time so you can't add too much.
Back in the day, you'd check your oil weekly, and soon know/learn what you need to out in.

Put in 1/4 pint and recheck the oil level. If not up to mark add oil oil until it is at the mark.
