Hi all, I thought I had successfully completed a dynamo to alternator conversion and everything was running smoothly for a few days. Then Friday morning, I had to turn back home as things were really really lumpy, rough driving and couldn't reach the top of the road. I got home though but now the car won't start. Lights come on and I hear the petrol pump with the usual starting sounds but the engine doesn't kick off. I'll check for a spark soon. I've ordered a coil just in case.
They advise you to connect one of the wires to the chassis for negative which I did but I may not have had a good connection. Could that have damaged anything? What's the best way to troubleshoot? Thanks in advance.

Just to clarify is it a alternator to dynamo conversion (as stated above in the thread) or a dynamo to alternator conversion as per title of the thread?

Thank you. Problem solved, it was the cable leading to the coil. Yeah it was dynamo to alternator.
Thanks for your diagram, I connected all four cables on the first two junctions, A and A1 together.

Are you actually saying you went to all the trouble of reversing an Alternator conversion, just because it started to run rough after a few days??
The fact they you've said
Why do the latter without the former.....
Checking for a spark is easy.
Why spend £20 on a coil, 'just in case'... ????

Nooo, still with the alternator. I figured it might be the coil as it was so lumpy, I didn't want to be without. I can return it, Amazon prime
