Type of paint on a 1968 Minor

Post by don58van »

Can anyone tell me what type of paint was used on a 1968 Austin Minor van? I am taking mine back to bare metal and it still has its original paint. I am curious because it might affect my choice of paint removal.

TIA
Don

Mainly acrylic was used in the 50s -60s,

If your going to use a chemical paint stripper I would suggest starchem Synstrip, its loads better than Nitromors, we use it if the vehicle / part can't be media blasted, it will remove most paints old and new,

But in my opinion media blasting is the best option if possible, done correctly it will remove all the paint and rust much better than paint stripper without any damage to the shel or panels, and it saves several days of paint stripping,

if your feeling rich you could have a look at SPL (surface processing ltd) they dip the shell and panels, then dip it again in primer, not cheap though
