HIF 44 Float Valve Size

Post by Mr. V »

Hello again. Me with my 1275 Midget engine, MG Metro inlet manifold, lcb exhaust and a possibly non standard cam.
I wish to replace the float valve and seat, as the valve is worn. The carb has the 7/16 threaded seat.

Should I replace the 70 thou valve and seat with a 96 thou, or stick to 70 thou? I can find no information about this online, try as I might.

Thanks all.

As far as I am aware, the standard size for the HIF44 is 0.096". I have a similar setup but with standard cam and the larger size works very well.

The 0.096" needle and seating (Pt No: WZX1095) is only used on the turbo equipped engine. Needle and seating (Pt No:WZX1099X) is used for non turbo applications.
If you do not have a turbo fitted and you have not experienced fuel delivery problems I would advise that you stick with the 0.070" needle and seating. With the larger needle and seating you may experience over delivery of fuel to the float chamber which may result in a rich mixture.

Thank you both. I sort of thought that over richening(?) might possibly be a problem with the bigger valve, but then I was also worried that the smaller valve might not give the flow.
I'm obviously a glass half empty kind of fellow!
I'd ordered a 0.070" anyway, because that's what was in there originally.
