head gasket

Post by stuffedpike20 »

My 1098 is running fine. It has a non-copper head gasket fitted that has been on for a few years.
I have got the urge to remove the rocker and check the torques of the head nuts. I think it comes from reading about other people having trouble with their head gaskets.
Would it do any harm to check the torques, or should I leave well alone?
Thanks
John

My advice for what it is worth is to leave well alone.
You could be making a problem that is currently not there.

I agree, leave well alone if the car is "running fine".

I would also leave it alone. I had a slow ooze of oil from the front of the head where it meets the block. I did re-torque the head nuts and some of them were actually too loose but it made no difference to the oil leak and I had to do the head gasket anyway. So if there is actually a problem, re-torquing is not likely to improve anything and if there is no problem you only risk creating one (e.g snapping a stud).
